Avery the Explorer

She is not actually crawling yet, but is mobile enough that we will have to clear out all small toys of Logan's. Those will now be toys for his room or for the basement. I am sure he will be thrilled!

Batwings

Is this a Huggies thing, or what. The Supremes I bought today do the same thing. It is hard to tell but even the inner elastic isn't touching her leg. I am more than a little worried that if there happen to be passengers on board, they may fall out. Eeek!!!

Houston, we have a toofer!

At 8.5 months old, Avery has her very first tooth just starting to poke through.  It's barely breaking the gums, but we'll count it anyways.  By this age, Logan had 9 teeth already...so this is a treat!  There's no hope of me getting a picture of the tooth itself (especially on my phone camera, which is what I used for the pic below) because she loves to stick her tongue out all the time. 




And Logan had lesson #2 at Power skating today.  It's quite a change for him - he pretty much ruled the ice in the group he was in before, and now he's at the back of the pack.  It's good motivation for him to get moving, but the boy needs to learn to bend his knees!  He can go like lightning, but it's always straight-legged.  He's gotta hurt when he's done! 




Watching the "big kids" who go on after him.  He has big aspirations to be able to skate as fast as them...

Big Brother

Logan LOVES to hold Avery.  And for the first time, he asked to hold her and try giving her a bottle.  This is no easy feat right now, because she wiggles all over the place, and basically looks like she's going to get up and walk away at any given time.  With her on top of him, he doesn't look so big...although when they're next to each other, he looks gigantic!

I think our time is limited

Time with a "still" baby, that is.  Avery has been pushing herself waaaay up when she's on her tummy, rolling around all over the place and just the other day, I had her sitting on the edge of the table facing me, so her feet were in my lap - she pushed with her feet and pulled on my collar with her hands and up she stood!

Poison

I made up some pureed peaches for Avery to try.  Apparently they are poison.  On the other hand, chicken seems to make everything alllll better.  If I mix a cube of pureed chicken with any vegetable she doesn't like - it's magically yummy! 

Vitamin Seeds

As I was getting Logan's lunch ready for school, he proclaimed, "Mama, you HAVE to send me everything healthy in my lunch.  NO JUNK!" ...hrm. Well, since he rarely gets any junk anyway, that wasn't a difficult request to oblige.  He went on to say that he wanted some strawberries in his lunch.  I had just gotten a big container of them, so I thought that was a great idea.  I started cutting them up for him, and he proceeded to tell me all about why strawberries are healthy.  They have lots of good things in them to give you strong bones and muscles!  AND...AND AND AND.."they have Vitamin Seeds!"!   Vitamin seeds?  "Yes!  To help you not get sick."  You mean vitamin C?  "Yeah, Mama...Vitamin Seeds...they're all on the outside of the strawberries!"

Rainbow Man

Logan's latest artwork from school.  He LOVES rainbows, so this was right up his alley. 

How many adults does it take...

To get blood drawn from an 8 month old?  Apparently it is 5.  5 phlebotomists to poke and prod before finding a vein and 5 adults to hold her down.

She got a Makka Pakka for her efforts though!  She's pretty pleased with that!

Army Men

Real ones!  We were walking around the armories when a group of soldiers arrived and did a training exercise.  I pointed out to Logan that they each had guns and he panicked.  They started coming towards us (as part of the exercise) and he ran screaming to hide behind a tank.  He was yelling "They've got GUNS...they're going to SHOOT US.  RUN MAMA!".  Poor guy was genuinely scared.  It was really cute though, and TJ and I both laughed at his reaction...I guess that makes us bad parents?

Getting to be a pro...

Avery's sitting up extremely well now.  Sometimes she can even get herself into a sitting position (if she's laying reclined on her back, but not flat).  She looks like she's going to take off crawling any second.

Sickie-boo

Avery is sick again.  We've had 4 or 5 nights in a row now of her not sleeping.  Literally, up crying most of the night.  The only way she gets any sleep is for me to sit in the rocking chair with her propped up on my shoulder.  She refused a couple of bottles yesterday, so off we went to the walk-in clinic this morning.  You know it's not good when the doctor takes a look and says "Oh, I really wish I had a student with me".  She's got a really bad ear infection and he said we're lucky her eardrum didn't rupture.  Poor Boo!  She's on Zithromax, which is nice because it's just once a day for 5 days...but it stays in her system and keeps working.  Though, she's working on developing a nice cough now.  Hopefully the zithro will work on that, too.

Spring Cleaning

It's that time of year again!  Yes, it's a garbage can full of dog fur.  Yellow and brown.  It's time to blow coat...ohhhh how I love spring.  Between the dog fur tumbleweeds and muddy pawprints...it's just heaven!
